Mullens dominates Larry Phillips Memorial
The dream season continued for Tanner Mullens over the weekend as he won both nights of the Larry Phillips Memorial at Monett (Missouri) Motor Speedway with the USRA Heartland Modified Tour.
On Friday, 36 Modifieds were at the 3/8-mile oval for an evening Mullens controlled. He set the quickest time in his qualifying group aboard his No. 02 machine and won his heat race from the pole. He then redrew the pole position for the night’s 30-lap, $2,075-to-win feature. Mullens led every lap, but he had to hold off Gary Christian in a green-white-checkered finish to take the victory. He crossed the stripe 0.487 seconds ahead of Christian, with Larry Phillips’ son and Mullens’ friend Terry Phillps finishing third. Rodney Sanders and Cole Anderson came home fourth and fifth, respectively.
The next night, Mullens was among 38 Heartland Modified Tour drivers at Monett for the $7,575-to-win finale. He qualified eighth in his group and won his heat race from the fourth starting spot. For the second consecutive night, he redrew the pole for the main event. He once again wired the field, taking the victory in the 40-lap race by a 2.092-second margin over Brandon Givens. Sanders, Phillips and Mark Smith completed the top five.
The victories were Mullens’ 13th and 14th feature triumphs overall in 2025 and he has won all six of his Heartland Modified Tour starts this year.
What's more, in addition to the winner’s share over the weekend, Mullens collected $7,575 in lap leader money on Saturday to bring his total winnings from the event to $17,225.
