Mullens posts pair of top-10 finishes at Arrowhead and Springfield

With his Summit USMTS plans rained out for the second consecutive week, Tanner Mullens shifted his attention from the scheduled Texas Cotton Palace Clash at Heart O’ Texas Speedway near Waco to USRA Modified competition in Oklahoma and Missouri on the first weekend in May.

On Friday, Mullens and his Sandlian Iron & Metal Auto Salvage No. 02 team were part of a 21-car USRA Modified field at Colcord, Oklahoma’s Arrowhead Speedway. Mullens drove from fifth to second in his heat race, positioning him second to begin the 20-lap, $1,000-to-win feature on the 1/3-mile oval. He elected to pull in early and save equipment based on difficult track conditions. However, he still recorded a 10th-place result.

The next night, Mullens competed at Missouri’s Springfield Raceway in a special $1,000-to-win A-Mod program that attracted 15 Modified competitors. Mullens won his heat on the quarter-mile oval and began the 20-lap main event from the third spot. He finished in the same position, rounding out the podium behind Terry Phillips and Jason Pursley. Chris Spalding grabbed the fourth spot and Jaren Martin finished fifth.
