Mullens motors to ARMS win at Route 66
The opening night of the USRA American Racer Modified Series (ARMS) Texas Two-Step went to Tanner Mullens at Route 66 Motor Speedway on Friday. His win at the 3/8-mile clay oval in Amarillo, Texas, was his 21st feature triumph of the season.
With a $4,000 winner's share on the line, 49 USRA Modifieds were at the track when the event got underway. Mullens qualified with the seventh-quickest time in his group aboard his No. 02 machine to kick off his evening. He started and finished third in his heat race, starting him 13th in the A-Main.
He marched steadily forward as cautions plagued the early portion of the 30-lap race, using restarts to click off positions. He took the lead just past halfway and remained out front until the checkered flag fell. He crossed the start-finish line 1.324 seconds ahead of Stormy Scott, with Kale Westover, Rodney Sanders and Hunter Sandy completing the top five. Mullens’ impressive performance also earned him the night’s hard charger award.
The win was Mullens’ second with ARMS in 2025 and ninth in Heartland Promotions competition this year.
On Saturday, $6,000 was on offer to the winner of the event finale, bringing 46 USRA Modifieds to Route 66 Motor Speedway. Mullens turned in a fourth-place qualifying effort in his group, but was unable to complete his heat after the distributor cap and fuel line came off while he was leading. He steered from 14th to win his B-Main, putting him 18th on the grid to begin the 35-lap main event.
He climbed to the runner-up position in the feature and was running second with two laps to go when his driveshaft broke, leading to a DNF and a 15th-place result.
