Tanner Mullens earns Tri-State USMTS victory
Sporting a special wrap honoring the memory of 9/11, Tanner Mullens emerged victorious on Friday during the inaugural Red, White & Blue Nationals at Tri-State Speedway.
With a $5,000 winner’s share on the line, Mullens was among 36 Summit USMTS competitors at the 3/8-mile track in Pocola, Oklahoma, on Friday evening for “Honor the Fallen Night.” He qualified his No. 02 Modified second in his group and went on to turn in a sixth-to-third run in his heat race. He started the 40-lap feature from the sixth position and took over the lead on the 24th circuit. He showed the way for the remainder of the race, taking the checkered flag just 0.166 seconds ahead of Jim Chisholm. Cade Dillard, Kyle Brown and Rodney Sanders completed the top five.
The victory was Mullens’ 19th overall in a stellar 2025 campaign.
On Thursday, the three-day inaugural event kicked off with 36 USMTS Modified teams entered in “Salute to the Heroes Night.” Mullens was quickest in his group qualifying session and was runner-up in his heat. He started the 30-lap, $3,000-to-win A-Main from eighth on the grid and advanced five positions in the race to round out the podium behind Tyler Wolff and Kyle Slader. Jim Chisholm grabbed the fourth spot and Joe Duvall took fifth.
After Mullens’ pair of podium results on Thursday and Friday, he was locked into Saturday’s 50-lap, $20,000-to-win finale on “Never Forget Night.” Mullens started second and finished fourth, crossing the start-finish line after Tyler Wolf, Dillard and Brown. Slader came home fifth.
Thanks to his trio of top-five finishes in the Sooner State, Mullens is now just 80 markers behind Rodney Sanders in the Summit USMTS National Championship point standings.
