Mullens scores victory in Slick Mist Show-Me Shootout

Tanner Mullens grabbed his third Summit USMTS win of 2025 and his 16th of the season overall on Friday after a dominant performance at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri.

Friday’s first night of the 16th annual Slick Mist Show-Me Shootout at the 3/8-mile “Diamond of Dirt Tracks” attracted 33 USMTS Modified competitors seeking the $5,000 winner’s share. Mullens qualified fifth in his group and claimed the runner-up spot in his heat race.

He rolled off third to start the 40-lap A-Main and took over the lead on the first circuit. He went on to lead every lap and triumphed with a 0.970-second margin of victory over runner-up Tyler Wolff. Third place went to Tyler Davis, with Bobby Williams and Nic Bidinger finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.

Mullens’ Friday win was one of his three top-five finishes over the weekend, which vaulted him to second in the Summit USMTS National Championship standings.

On Thursday, Mullens raced in a 34-car USMTS field at Kellyville, Oklahoma’s Creek County Speedway. He opened the Sooner Showdown by setting overall quick time on the quarter-mile oval. He went on to lead his heat race, but broke a driveshaft and was relegated to a B-Main. He drove from 11th to fourth in the “B” and began the 40-lap, $3,000-to-win main event from 19th place. He surged ahead 15 positions to finish fourth and earn the FK Rod Ends Hard Charger award. Mullens took the checkered flag chasing Rodney Sanders, Terry Phillips and Jim Chisholm. Gary Christian came home fifth.

After his Friday victory at Lucas Oil Speedway, Mullens competed in the 34-car Show-Me Shootout finale at the Wheatland track on Saturday.

He qualified ninth in his group, then won his heat race, starting him fourth in the 50-lap, $5,000-to-win feature. He led from laps six to 40 before ultimately finishing in the fourth spot behind Kyler Strickler, Jim Chisholm and Sanders. Wolff took fifth.
