Mullens closes out season with Turkey Bowl
Tanner Mullens made his final start of 2023 over the weekend, competing in the 58-car-strong Modified class in the Turkey Bowl XVII Larry Phillips Memorial at Springfield (Mo.) Raceway.
On Friday, a pair of heat races was on tap for each competitor. Mullens steered his Sandlian Iron & Metal No. 02 Modified to a runner-up result in his first heat and a fifth-place finish in his second on the quarter-mile track.
The results put Mullens in a Saturday B-Main, where he grabbed the third and final transfer spot into the night's 50-lap, $7,575-to-win main event. However, he hurt the engine along the way, necessitating a change before the big show commenced.
Mullens started 18th in the 50-lapper but was unable to finish, ultimately coming home in the 18th spot.
During his 2023 campaign, Mullens registered 10 wins overall along with 28 top-five results and 39 top-10 finishes. He also finished fifth in the Summit United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) National point standings.
