Mullens takes pair of top-10 ARMS finishes over Labor Day weekend

Tanner Mullens and his Fuqua Trucking No. 02 team joined the USRA American Racer Modified Series (ARMS) for three races in Texas and Arkansas over the Labor Day weekend holiday.

First up, on Thursday evening Mullens was one of 31 USRA Modified competitors seeking the $2,000 top prize at Hunt County Raceway (Greenville, Texas). Mullens finished fifth in his heat and transferred to the feature with a B-Main victory on the quarter-mile oval. He started 17th in the 30-lap feature race and marched forward 11 positions to record a sixth-place result.

On Friday, ARMS moved to 67 Speedway (Texarkana, Arkansas) for a $2,500-to-win program at that quarter-mile facility. A total of 36 USRA Modifieds were in attendance. Mullens drove from eighth to third in his heat race and began the 20-lap A-Main from the second spot. With rough track conditions, Mullens decided to pull in after only a few circuits and save his equipment. He finished 16th.

Finally, Mullens and team wrapped up their weekend on Saturday at the 3/8-mile Rocket Raceway Park (Petty, Texas), where 63 USRA Modified drivers sought a $10,000 payday in the ninth annual Bryan Mize Memorial.

Mullens won his heat from the pole, then started the 40-lap main event in the 12th spot with a fast car. He advanced nine positions in the race to come home third behind Jason Hughes and Rodney Sanders. Tyler Wolff and Dennie Gieber followed Mullens under the checkered flag to round out the top five.
